On Monday, March 23, Governor Whitmer instituted Executive Order No. 2020-21, which states that to suppress the spread of COVID-19, and to prevent overwhelming hospitals, residents are being directed to shelter in place and only leave their homes for essentials (medical supplies, food, banking services, etc.).
Our organization has experienced a range of challenges associated with COVID-19. Based on this new information from the state, and the latest information from the CDC regarding events held 8 weeks out, we have decided to postpone our upcoming events.
The State Arbor Day Celebration, scheduled for Friday, April 24, 2020.
Arbor Fest, scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2020.
We continue to closely evaluate information as we receive it and will share with you moving forward. Please check our events page for the latest updates regarding our postponed events. We will also send out information through our monthly E-newsletters. If you are not yet subscribed, please email email@example.com to be added to our list-serve.
In lieu of our programming, we look forward to engaging with you on social media. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and our blog.
While we are saddened to postpone our events, we understand the severity of this situation and want to ensure the health and safety of all. Thank you for supporting the Michigan Arbor Day Alliance during these challenging times.
POSTPONED DATE TO BE DETERMINED, STAY TUNED
Join the Michigan Arbor Day Alliance, the Michigan DNR and Potter Park Zoo in celebrating Arbor Day at this FREE event (no entry or parking fees) open to the public! This event will serve as a meetup location for the DNR's Happy Little Trees Virtual 5k, we will be handing out tree seedlings to attendees, have an "ask a professional" booth to get all your tree related questions answered, have a walking tour of the 25 trees planted on zoo grounds, music, vendors, a beer tent (Arbor Brewing Company) and more!
If you choose to participate in the 5k at this event, please see below for more information.
Happy Little Trees 5k information: No matter how you reach the finish line – walk, run or hike – you pick the pace and the place. Just be sure to complete your virtual 5K sometime between April 17-26. That’s 10 days including two full weekends and, for good measure, Earth Day (April 22) and Arbor Day (April 24). Your virtual race will make a real difference – all race proceeds support tree-planting efforts at state parks throughout Michigan.
We hope you will join us at Potter Park Zoo on April 25th to complete the race! We will be meeting across the parking lot in the zoo along the Lansing River Trail. Participants can complete the 5k at any time between 10am-1pm (do it at your own pace!). Please go here for a map of the 5k route.
5k registration cost: $34 per person (plus a 2% processing fee). Approximately $10 from each registration will go help plant more Happy Little Trees in Michigan state parks. Each registrant will receive a Happy Little t-shirt, a commemorative bib number, and a finisher's medal in the mail.
Happy Little Trees 5k participants need to register here.
*Please note that the registration cap for this 5k is 20,000. Registration opened on Jan. 1, 2020 and will close on February 29, 2020.
