Fifth Grade Poster Contest
Celebrate Arbor Day with Art!

The Michigan Arbor Day Alliance is happy to announce the return of the 5th Grade Arbor Day Poster Contest!

The Michigan Arbor Day Alliance once held an annual poster contest for fifth grade students. Winning entries went on to the national competition run by the Arbor Day Foundation. When the Arbor Day Foundation decided to discontinue their contest, ours went away with it. The poster contest was replaced with our Go Green Youth Challenge initiative (GGYC).

While the GGYC was successful and planted over 1,000 trees in Michigan, we have decided to change directions by bringing the poster contest back. We hope to see a lot of great entries this year. We are very excited to have this contest back and hope you are too. If you have any questions about this contest, please email miarborday@gmail.com.

So in 2017, Michigan 5th grade students are invited to use their imaginations and creativity to submit a poster demonstrating the theme:

We All Need Trees

Contest Rules:

1.  Entry must be original artwork. Computer generation or collages WILL NOT be accepted. They may be done in crayon, marker, watercolor, ink, acrylic, colored pencil, tempura paint, or any combination of these.

2.  Entry must be from 8.5" x 11" to 14" x 18" in size.

3. Please send ONLY ONE poster from each participating class and tape/paper clip the entry form to the back of the poster. Choose whatever method you like for determining the top entry (classroom/school contest, science or art fair display, penny war, etc.)

  • If you are participating as an individual or through a library Rule #3 does not apply.

4. The poster must be related to the contest theme in some way. The theme "We All Need Trees" must be on the poster, spelled correctly.

5. Entry must be signed on the back of the poster with the student's first and last name.

6. Parents/Guardians/Teachers of homeschooled students: please register by providing your fifth grade student's name, your name, address, contact phone number, and email address on the entry form.

7. Please fill out the entry form completely and legibly. If we are unable to contact you, you will forfeit your prize.

8. Entries must be mailed flat. Do not fold, roll, matte, mount, laminate, or frame your poster.

9. Posters WILL NOT be automatically returned. If you would like your poster back, please send a self-addressed, stamped envelope large enough to hold your poster along with your entry and we will mail it back to you. Posters will NOT be returned after May 1, 2017.

All entries must be received by March 10, 2017, and mailed to:
